If you enjoyed Wulfgar and the Vikings here is some good news! Despite all the difficulties of the last few months Wulfgar's second adventure has made it into print and will available from 5th October. Copies can be ordered from your local Christian bookshop or direct from the publisher. If you have any difficulties getting your copy contact me. Good for reading aloud, this is history to enjoy! From the blurb: "Hund, the rescued Wolfhound, is unaccountably injured and something mysterious is devouring all the grass in a riverside hayfield. Wulfgar and Morcant decide to keep watch and find out just what is afoot near the village. It's all bigger than they bargained for – do they tell the Thane or just keep quiet? A clash of loyalties sees Wulfgar deeply involved in something that is far too close to insubordination for an Anglo-Saxon warrior …. Another set of adventures awaits Wulfgar the Saxon in this second book of the series and his loyalty and skill are going to be tested to the utmost."

As statues topple across Britain and textbooks get rewritten to reflect values our forefather's would have simply not have understood, it is more important than ever to teach our children history well. As usual the older books are better. H E Marshall's Our Island Story and Our Empire Story are full of good things as is Lady Calcott's Little Arthur's History (included on the Mothers' Companion flashdrive). These books are not much use for 20th century history and beyond, however. They are also rather thin on what, for want of a better term, we might call church history. If you have enjoyed The Story of God's Dealings with our Nation you will be pleased to know that the second volume has now been completely overhauled and expanded. Now a whopping 220 plus pages the book brings the story right up to date. Copies can be obtained from Blog About Britain. Or, if you are going to be at the Cefn Lea Camp site next week, I can let you have a copy.
Just to let you know...
The new website Christian Home Education is now up and running with the first lessons for September already posted. If you made use of Covid Emergency Home Schooling UK during “lockdown” you will be familiar with the style. The new site provides one substantial lesson per week rather than 4-5 per week but there is plenty of material that will generally see you through more than one day of school work, especially if you are a Mothers' Companion user already. September sees us looking at: Journalism in the Blitz, the very first published board game, the calendar riots, Richard the Lionheart and the Bayeux tapestry. Activities include dressing up (of course), starting embroidery, game making and other crafts with the usual mix of reading, music, singing and just thinking about things. Every lesson has a memory verse which you can learn throughout the week along with tips for memorizing and tiny lessons from the Bible verse itself. Please take a look. Everything is completely free of charge. |
